History: 2020 to Present

2020

The Company decided to perform Aladdin again in February 2020 and used a script written by Stephen (Snowy) Clark, who put his own interpretation on this popular pantomime.  A couple of members who had gone off to university had returned and took on some of the leading roles.  Jaci Brickley-Clark continued as Producer and Musical Director, while the talented Cait Davies joined the Company and took on the role as Choreographer.   The pantomime was well attended, despite the Theatre having to undergo a major clean up, just prior to the panto get in, following the installation of a front of house lift.  Which caused a lot of disruption and a significant amount of dust all over the auditorium.   This was the start of a major refurbishment, to replace the seats, air conditioning and installation of mesh grid for the theatre technicians.  A couple of weeks after the production, the country experienced a national lockdown following Covid -19 hitting the UK.  This therefore significantly delayed the project.  It wasn’t until January 2023 when the Borough Theatre eventually was ready to open to the general public.

2021

Due to the Covid Pandemic the Company decided to perform its first virtual pantomime, where members performed from their own homes.  The script was written by Jane Gilbert who also put the production together.  It was then broadcasted on YouTube during the traditional February Half Term week.

2022

There was no show in 2022 due to the Welsh Government enforcing further restrictions at the beginning of January due to the Omicron variant, which was expected to peak later that month.  As a result rehearsals could not take place as planned.  Hence the Cinderella production which was due to take place in February 2022 was postponed until the following year.

2023

Cinderella, the most popular pantomime of all time was staged for the tenth time. After two years of false starts due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the major theatre refurbishment, the Company was raring to go with their 92nd year.  There were a couple of changes to the main cast with Ken Jones (panto dame) decided to hang up his bra for the time being.  Ticket prices were increased, the first time in over ten years, to accommodate the increase rises in theatre hire, scenery, musicians and costumes.  The 2023 Charity Partner was the Wales Air Ambulance, with two of our members being on the receiving end, in separate incidents.  Both of them owed their lives to the swift and professional help received from this valuable service. Over £1,310 was raised towards this Charity.  The Company received excellent reviews from the Cinderella production, despite the smaller chorus size who appeared on stage.  It was well attended and was once again a great success.  The show also won 🏆 a couple of NODA Awards, for the best Pantomime & also best Show Programme.

2024

Dick Whittington was the chosen Pantomime for 2024.  A panto classic which featured Dick and his Cat.  Digital stage projection was used for the first time, while the Charity Partner was the Mental Health Charity ‘Mind Monmouthshire’. It was quite fitting that the show sponsor was P & P Pest Control Ltd, which also had a big mention on stage following their support to eradicate the evil ‘King Rat’ which was played by our Vice Chairman, Joe Pugh.   Our Chairman, Ken Jones also returned to the stage to play the part of Alderman Fitzwarren.  While one of our members, Luke Williams who played the part of ‘Nip’ had appeared on television prior, in the TV Quiz Show ‘The Chase’ on ITV presented by the famous Bradley Walsh.  At the 2024 AGM the Company said farewell to their Membership Secretary Jon Newsam, who decided to retire from his role after many years service.
